Governor Jim Gibbons has proposed devastating cuts in the education budget for the state – cuts which threaten to decimate our education system. This site was created to disseminate information about budget cuts and their potential impact on us.

The State of Nevada is facing an unprecedented budgetary crisis due to the economic downturn. Because of the $1.5 billion shortfall in the state’s budget for the next biennium, education’s funding in on the chopping block. Already weakened by previous cuts (starting in 2007), the education system is no longer able to absorb further reductions. Further cuts will cripple the education system statewide, and will affect all students in the following ways:
Should further cuts take place, the education system will no longer be able to fulfill its mission of educating the residents of the State of Nevada. Nevada already ranks at the bottom of education systems nationally, and needs the support and commitment of the legislature to improve our education system, not dismantle it.
